Apr 4th	🥳 Friday Dance Party! Join us for a little reading and a lot of dancing! Best suited for children ages 2-5 with a caregiver. All ages and abilities welcome.
Apr 5th	🍅 The Great Tomato Plant Sale The 2025 Great Tomato Plant Sale is happening on six days in April at three spots in Contra Costa County: Central county in Walnut Creek (April 5, 6, 9 & 16), East County in Antioch (April 12), and West County in Richmond (April 19). All plants are just $4, and you can pay with cash, check, or card at each location. The Master Gardener volunteers are getting ready with over 75 types of tomatoes, plus peppers, eggplants, squash, cucumbers, herbs, leafy greens, and more!
Apr 5th	🏃 Trails Challenge – Diablo 50k The longer you go, the more you see and experience! Courses are all on dirt trails, heading out from Castle Rock park in Walnut Creek, heading into Mount Diablo State Park — all the way to the summit for the 50K.
Apr 6th	🧘 Lululemon Sunday Yoga Join us for a complimentary yoga class hosted by local ambassador Rachel Wolin. This sixty minute yoga flow class is all-levels appropriate, and will offer modifications and options for those new to their practice, and invite challenge for our experienced yogis.
Apr 7th	🧘 Gentle Yoga and Meditation Sessions include gentle yoga movements on yoga mats or while sitting on chairs, stretching, breathing exercises, and mindfulness meditation.
Apr 7th	🎵 Diablo Regional Concert Band Join us for a lively springtime concert with the Diablo Regional Concert Band.
Apr 8th	🐝 Uncle Jer’s Travelling Bee’s Act Check out Uncle Jer’s travelling Bee’s Act. We will explore honey making, harvesting, bee reproduction, and the medicinal qualities of honey.

Apr 10th	DiRT Day – Earth Month at Ang and Irish Canyon Please join us in celebrating Earth Month by giving young trees some love! We will be weeding around and possibly watering oak and California buckeye trees of various ages along Irish Creek. This project is in partnership with the East Contra Costa County Habitat Conservancy and East Bay Regional Park District.
Apr 11th	🏞️ Sauntering & Soloing Hike SMD’s beautiful Mangini Ranch Educational Preserve and connect more deeply with nature through a contemplative solo exercise amidst an oak woodland forest with beautiful vistas.
Apr 12th	🧹 Danville Ramp Cleanup Join us for the Danville Ramp Cleanup! Help us make a difference by cleaning up Sycamore ramps this Saturday, April 12, from 8:30 am to 10:00 am. We invite everyone ages 12 and above to come out and lend a hand. Together, we can keep our community clean and vibrant!
Apr 12th	🐝 Pollinator & Friends Day Join us for a celebration of pollinators and their friends at the Ruth Bancroft Garden! Learn how you can help protect them and their habitats in your own garden and beyond.
Apr 12th	🍈 Contra Costa Fruit Rescue – Walnut Creek We will harvest fresh backyard fruit for donation to local soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters and the food bank. Typical harvests take about 3 hours and travel no more than 25 miles from the starting location. Please wear closed-toed shoes and clothing appropriate for the expected weather conditions of the day. Come prepared to be outdoors for 4 hours.
Apr 12th	📄 Paper Shredding Event Join us at the Christie’s International Real Estate Sereno office for our complimentary annual shredding event! We look forward to seeing you there!
Apr 13th	Black Diamond in Bloom We’ll hike the Chaparral Trail to see spring flowers, view groves of Coulter Pine trees, and marvel at 50-million-year-old fossils in the rock along our route. We’ll also visit the historic Rose Hill Cemetery, final resting place for many of the coal miners and their families, including town matriarch and midwife Sarah Norton, whose ethereal spirit is said to haunt these hills.

Apr 15th	🏞️ Shell Ridge Open Space Loop Beautiful rolling hills, a meander through an oak woodland with wildflowers, views of Mt. Diablo, birds, and a lovely small lake near the end of the loop.

Apr 18th	Mount Diablo spring hike Welcome to the Mount Diablo spring hike! Join us for a fun and adventurous outdoor experience on Sun, May 18, 2025 at 9:30 AM. Lace up your hiking boots and get ready to explore the beautiful trails of Mount Diablo. This event will start at the parking lot at Blackhawk Plaza, and we’ll carpool to the top where you can enjoy stunning views and fresh air while getting some exercise. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to connect with nature and make new friends. See you there!
Apr 19th	🧹 Downtown WC Clean-Up Please save the date for our next Downtown Clean-Up in coordination with Sustainable Walnut Creek’s Earth Day Celebration at Civic Park. Our event will kick off from the Macy*s Broadway Plaza parking lot (3rd floor). Note that first 3 hours or parking are free. We’ll be cleaning Walnut Creek, all the way from Whole Foods to BART. We’ll break up into 7 teams with specific routes so we get it all done in about 90 minutes. And — hot off the press – The Mayor or Walnut Creek Cindy Darling is coming with donuts to kick it off!
Apr 19th	💃 Hansamo: Traditional Korean Music and Dance Please join us for a performance from Hansamo, a Korean American dance and drum troupe that provides volunteer opportunities to middle and high school students.

Apr 20th	🧑‍🎨 Art Walk – 10 am Join former Mayor Bob Simmons for a 90-minute, 2-mile walk through downtown Walnut Creek to explore vibrant murals that transform blank walls into urban art.
Apr 20th	TBN Mental Health Hike The Black Neighborhood Mental Health Hikes are intended to provide outdoor spaces for black people to practice mental mindfulness within community & nature. This hike is considered hard due to steep hills, rocky terrain and a solid hiking pace
Apr 25th	Green Movie Night – “Common Ground” Celebrate Earth Day and join us for a FREE screening of “Common Ground”. Featuring Laura Dern, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson and more, Common Ground is the highly anticipated sequel to the successful documentary, Kiss the Ground, which touched over 1 billion people globally and inspired the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to put $20 billion toward soil health.
Apr 26th	🚀 Tinkers & Thinkers Launch Party 3-2-1 Blastoff! Join us for an exciting afternoon of S.T.E.A.M. learning and exploration! Build a rocket and launch it in the park. Pick up a take-home Tinker Box and get inspired with ideas to build multiple solar-powered projects with the components inside.
Apr 27th	🎉 Lafayette Earth Day This is fun for the whole community! Join us to celebrate and take care of the Earth! This is as local as it gets with a kids area, bike tune up, 4H animals and many community groups such as Girl Scouts, Scouts America, the Environmental Task Force, RecycleSmart, and many more! Apr 27th	Facial Night Experience at Inlab SkinGlow Explore the power of clean, high-performance skincare that’s thoughtfully crafted with nature in mind. You’ll get to sample our eco-conscious formulations, learn how to build a radiant skincare ritual, and enjoy a relaxing, hands-on facial experience — all in our serene lab space.

Apr 29th	🏞️ Castles & Peregrine Falcons by Save Mount Diablo Walk along beautiful Pine Creek and marvel at the magnificent rock formations and wildflowers. Bring binoculars to look for soaring peregrines. There are four creek crossings where hiking poles are very helpful if wet conditions. Be sure to bring plenty of water and a snack, and dress in layers. Sturdy shoes or hiking boots are recommended.

Event History

A small idea for a Walnut Creek eco-art contest has blossomed into a full month of learning about, creating, and having fun with sustainability. In 2019, Robert Joe, the founder of Sustainable Walnut Creek, organized a youth eco-art contest to raise awareness of sustainable living practices. This was the only event of its kind in the Bay Area.

This event has evolved into a community-wide undertaking for the public in and around Walnut Creek. It has grown over the years and expanded to an entire month of activities called Walnut Creek Earth Month. It starts the first week of April and ends on Earth Day with a celebration event.

The goal is to unite the community, local organizations, and small businesses to promote sustainable lifestyles and stress the importance of advocating for an environmentally friendly and healthy city. Jackie Garcia Mann, a co-organizer with 350 Contra Costa, says, “Events all week will welcome the community to learn, engage, and take action for the planet.”

“We hope sustainability will be integrated into every part of our local communities. The expert workshops series are meant to provide a perspective on where your local engagement will make a difference,” says co-organizer and Climate Reality Leader Nadine Hammer. “Every day has a different theme, such as reducing plastic waste, home building electrification, or youth climate activism.”

Bob Joe is thrilled with the growth of his simple idea. “This is a team effort, and I appreciate the energy and passion of all the people and organizations involved. Clearly there is a strong interest in how sustainability can make our world a better place.
